Valenzuela City, DepEd Honor 14 'Catalysts of Change'

Fourteen public school teachers were recognized recently by the City Government of Valenzuela and the local division of the Department of Education (DepEd) for their exemplary service during the Win na Win Search for Outstanding Teachers.

The awardees demonstrated qualities of "effective, innovative and creative

teaching strategies" and each were awarded with a P10,000 cash incentive and

a plaque of recognition from City Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian.

DepEd Valenzuela Division Superintendent Dr. Flordeliza Mayari in her speech said

the "winners are models of professionalism and dedication." The official

expressed her confidence that these 14 teachers will be able to influence

and motivate their colleagues as well.

The search underscores the commitment of the city government to promote

a culture

of excellence in education by recognizing the best mentors who can be

upheld as models for the academe. 

"We are expected to be molders of mind and hearts," Dr. Mayari said "

we are indeed catalysts of change and transformers of lives -

roles which all make teachers heroes." 

The awardees for elementary category per subject area are:

Erlinda S. Manalo of Pio Valenzuela Elementary School,

North District for English, Rizza B. Balcita of Canumay East

Elementary School, Central District for Mathematics, Shirley M.

Claridades of P. R. San Diego Elementary School, North District for

Science, Josefina A. Bartolo of Malinta Elementary School,

Central District for Filipino, Clarita M. Panganiban of Pasolo

Elementary School, North District for HEKASI, Edna A.

Delina of Canumay West Elementary School, Central District

for EPP and Lydia C. Rojales of Canumay West Elementary School,

South District for MSEP. 

For the secondary category on the other hand, the winners

per subject area are: Nelia Lavarez of Canumay National High

School for English, Serafin SD. Raymundo II of Dalandanan

National High School for Mathematics, Juliana D. Tamayo of Valenzuela

City Science High School for Science and Technology, Ma. Lorena Z. dela

Cruz of Polo Naional High School for Filipino, Edna C. Lucanas of Valenzuela

City Science High School for Araling Panlipunan, Renato D. Cruz of Gen

. T. de Leon National High School for TLE, Alfredo A. Galicia of

Valenzuela National High School for MAPEH and Erlinda Ongjungco,

an education supervisor retiree of DCS-Valenzuela.

The awards were processed through a thorough selection with 100

nominees submitted by their principals from various public

elementary and secondary schools in Valenzuela. They

underwent teaching demonstrations and careful evaluation

that culminated with only 14 being shortlisted as awardees during

the ceremony held at the Valenzuela City Auditorium.

The Philippines Assistance for the Hyderocephaous Victims., Inc will hold a fund raising campaign through donor cars entitled "Save Life Share A Heart Project 2010"

The objective of this activity is to help and assist indigent patients for their medical and medicinces assistance so that parents/familes of the victims can able cope with the daily demands of living and difficult tasks of fending for their daily needs in order to lessen or alleviate their burderns.

Maysan National High School Historical Background


The Municipality of Valenzuela acquired the inception of public secondary education in 1968 when Maysan Barrio High School ground by the Barrio Council and upon the direction of then Mayor Geronimo Angeles.

In June 1969, for other Barrio High Schools were organized in the Elementary Schools of Malinta, Marulas Gen.T de Leon and Polo by their respective Barrio Councils, in cooperation with the Municipal Council headed by the Honesto Paras.

On August 12, 1969 by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 99, all Barrio High Schools were absorbed by the Municipality and converted into Valenzuela Municipal High School. Mrs. Josefina A. Lizaso, who was appointed Principal by then School Division Superintendent, Felicitas Bernardino of the Division of Bulacan, held office at the Palasan School site Polo.

Maysan National High School gained its autonomy under the leadership of the former DepEd Secretary, Ricardo C. Gloria on October 17, 1997.

Maysan National High School is strategically located along Maysan Road and approximately three kilometers away from the Valenzuela City Hall. It is flanked by the Elementary Building and the former Delamo Carrot Juice Factory. East side of the building strands the Holy Rosary Parish Church, a wet market, and the Maysan Barangay Hall respectively. The School is very accessible to the Students and Teachers considering its proximity to major local thoroughfares.
