As time goes on, modernization for global competitiveness is what every nation aims for. The Super Powers like the United States of America are finding ways to maintain its superiority, while the Third World like us, Philippines is still aiming for its recognition. As we try so hard to research and develop materials for global excellence, values should hopefully not be stored in a box.
A man today is more conscious of his own personal interests, keeps innocent of knowing his worth that would undeniably great if he could render service to his fellowmen. He keeps on dreaming he would become somebody, someday but don’t find reasons why his values affect his whole being.
It is an affirmation when we say that man of modern society is so advanced in education, either in sciences or in technology, but won’t mind nor think about what steps he would make or trace or what good he could do for his fellowmen.
Society’s keen observers have noted that man has become ill-disciplined and is not really doing much about it. Some seldom use “po” or “opo” in answering their elders, and others follow the errands from their elders with hesitation. These only show that Filipino values are slowly deteriorating. So, it is then imperative that we begin to discipline ourselves. The problem with us is that we yearn only for the carefree, luxurious, and easy-going life. The exercise of discipline, realization of values is difficult for us to follow. The need to implement good values among ourselves – is a must! We know values, but we fail to put them into action. The moral and spiritual values that we learn are futile if we should not practice them.
Realigning values for self-development and instilling self-discipline can surely make a difference in our lives. If we undertake these simple tasks with zeal and determination, a more peaceful, progressive, and brighter Philippines would prevail.
